Author Guidelines The Journal of Cosmology is devoted to the advancement of Science and will publish original contributions in the fields of Cosmology, Astronomy, Astrobiology, Earth Sciences, Fluid Mechanics and the Origins of Life. Papers related to these general areas including those concerning biology, genetics, geology, climate change, meteorology, physics, celestial mechanics, astrophysics, particle physics, paleoastronomy, chemistry, panspermia, abiogenesis, extinction, the origin and evolution of life and nature of the universe, are welcome. To this end, we do not restrict the journal to submissions from just academics and individuals with degrees in the subject matter. As long as the paper is formatted in the correct format for scientific papers and is cohesive and comprehensive, and the editors can follow the logic throughout, it will be accepted for forwarding to the appropriate reviewers in the field of study. The Journal of Cosmology will review and publish 5 types of scientific articles: 1) Research: Major scientific discoveries and original research articles which address important theoretical issues and make a significant contribution to science. 2) Theoretical: Comparing and contrasting specific theories (e.g. big bang vs steady state, panspermia vs abiogenesis), or the presentation of new theories. 3) Reviews: explanatory overviews and discussions of historical and recent discoveries or theoretical developments within the field.
4) Commentary: Commenting, criticizing,and discussing controversial and thought provoking articles published in the Journal of
Cosmology.
5) Speculation: Hypotheses and scientifically grounded speculation.
Make your article interesting, informative and to the point. All articles must avoid jargon, and must be written to be understood by a wide range of scientists specializing in areas of science other than
those addressed by the author.
The Journal of Cosmology also publishes book reviews and editorials.
The first edition of Cosmology was published, online, on October 15 2009. All editions of JOC will be devoted to and organized around this theme: Origins and Evolution of the Cosmos, Galaxies, Stars,
Planets, Life....
All papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format. Articles, commentary, editorials, speculation, news releases, and any other material published in the Journal of Cosmology represent the opinions of the authors and should not be construed to reflect the opinions of the Editors or the Publisher. Article Rejection
Approximately 30% of invited articles have been rejected.
Approximately 50% of invited article have been rejected then revised and then resubmitted following peer review, and then accepted.
Approximately 20% of invited articles have been accepted without suggested revisions following peer review.
Approximately 90% of all articles submitted without invitation, have been rejected.
Editorial Process
The following is the editorial workflow that every manuscript submitted to the journal undergoes during the course of the peer-review process.
All manuscripts are submitted and tracked by the Managing Editor. Once a manuscript is submitted, the manuscript is reviewed by the Managing Editor and then an Executive Editor. If an editor determines
that the manuscript is not of sufficient quality to go through the normal review process, the manuscript will be rejected with no further processing.
If an editor determines that the submitted manuscript is of sufficient quality and falls within the scope of the journal, the manuscript will be forwarded to referees for peer-review. The reviewers
submit their reports on the manuscripts along with their recommendation of one of the following actions to the Editor:
* Publish Unaltered
The Journal of Cosmology welcomes great ideas.
Authors should submit the names, affiliations, and email addresses of 5 scientists qualified to review their paper. This information should be included on page 1 of your manuscript. Do not submit the
names of friends or colleagues. The Editor may use these to guide the selection of referees.
All papers are reviewed anonymously by referees who are experts in the field in question. If the article is accepted pending revision authors will be asked to respond to criticisms and suggestions by
the referees prior to publication.
If reviewers suggest publication pending major revision, authors will be invited to revise and resubmit the manuscript and to address and respond to criticisms and suggestions by the referees. Reviewers
will be consulted about resubmitted manuscripts.
If the paper is rejected by one referee but accepted by a second referee, the author will be given the opportunity to revise the article.
Referees opposing publication will be required to provide the Editor with detailed, fact-based evidence, demonstrating that the rejected manuscript suffers from specific, and significant short-comings.
Papers rejected by the Journal of Cosmology cannot be revised and resubmitted.
To ensure that all manuscripts are reviewed fairly, the names of the referees will not be communicate to the authors.
Therefore, based on the written recommendations of the referees the Editor will then make one of the following editorial recommendations:
* Publish Unaltered
If the Editor recommends “Publish Unaltered,” the manuscript is accepted for publication.
If minor changes are required, the manuscript is returned to the authors who act accordingly and then resubmit the paper detailing exactly where and what changes were made.
If major changes are required, this information will be communicated to the authors who may then resubmit the paper for additional review.
Conditions & Permissions for Submission
Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work is not under review for publication elsewhere, and has not been previously published.
Submission for publication must be approved, in writing, by all of the authors.
Any person cited within the paper as a source of a personal communication must approve of the citation, in writing. Do not cite manuscripts in preparation, unpublished work, anonymous ftp files, or
databases.
Copyright
Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, copyright for the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, will be
assigned exclusively to the Publisher, Modern Cosmology Associates LLC. The Copyright Transfer Agreement must be signed by all the authors.
If your manuscript is accepted for publication, the publisher requires an editable electronic copy. Authors must email or upload the complete article, including tables, figures, and references as a
PDF document. Figures will be accepted in .tif jpg. or .gif formats at 72 pixels per inch, and no larger than 8 inches in width.
After the paper has been accepted, and upon the request of the author(s) and payment of additional fees, Cosmology will employ a professional science writer to stylistically enhance the readability of
the article.
An internet link to the proofs of the article will be sent to the corresponding author. The author is encouraged to carefully review the manuscript as it appears online, for this is the form it will
take and which will be viewed by the readers of Cosmology and other interested scientists and scholars.
Corrections only. Authors will be charged for alterations or additions in proof, other than the correction of errors. All of your corrections must be sent back to us via email. Each paragraph containing
the corrections must be included in the body of the email. Include only the corrected paragraph(s). Subsequent corrections will not be possible, so please ensure your first sending is complete.
